Everyone has a theory about productivity. That a lack of productivity means you are:
- Burnt out
- Scared of failure
- Overwhelmed
But also, there are some days where your productivity is a little lower. On those days, there are a number of productivity techniques you can use to get more done. As a new business owner, you need to be on top of things if you want to grow your business as quickly as possible.
The Pomodoro Technique is our preferred productivity technique at Dangerous Words Copywriting. We use it at times where we struggle to focus on our work.
What Is The Pomodoro Method?
The Pomodoro Method breaks your day into manageable chunks with short breaks. The theory is knowing that you only have to focus for a short period of time makes it easier to avoid checking your phone or email or whatever else may be distracting you.
The breaks also help you to avoid burnout or brain fatigue from long periods of work. It is a great way to get into the swing of the day. Some people use the Pomodoro Method to kickstart their focus and start the day off in a productive mindset. Other people use it only when they are struggling with their productivity. It is also widely used by those who have ADHD as it helps with executive dysfunction, and the timer kickstarts the anxiety, which can help spring them into action.
How Does It Work?
Set a timer for 25 minutes where you will work solidly. Once the timer goes off, you get a 5-minute break. Start the timer again and repeat. Consider a longer break after 2-3 hours.
There are a number of apps that offer a free Pomodoro Timer with the work and break times pre-set for ease. You may decide that a physical timer is better; there are plenty of those online too.
Alternatively, you could consider using a “Study with me Pomodoro Method” video on YouTube. This will have a built-in timer and benefits from something called body-doubling. This is where you have someone to follow along with. It is particularly beneficial for those with ADHD or focus issues.
Benefits of the Pomodoro Method
The Pomodoro Method is beneficial because of the little breaks. It gives you a chance to give your eyes a break and stretch your limbs. It can, at times, be frustrating to work in such small increments, but it will benefit your productivity throughout the course of the day.
Rather than having three hours of intense flow, you will have 6-8 hours of consistent productivity. Long story short, you will get much, much more done.
