It seems like every other week there’s a new marketing trend going viral on social media. It can be tempting to try them all out for your coaching business. After all, who doesn’t want more coaching clients? Before you jump on the latest marketing trend, here are some things to consider.
Does It Fit Your Coaching Business?
The first thing to think about is if the marketing trend seems right for your business. You have carefully curated a brand for your coaching business; don’t throw that away for a trend. Consider if it makes sense for your:
- Personal values
- Business values
- Brand identity
- Business processes
- Coaching services
What you are looking for here is whether the marketing trend supports your goals and the systems you have in place. If it clashes with your goals or systems then maybe the marketing trend is not right for your coaching business. Alternatively, you could modify the marketing trend slightly to make it more suitable for your coaching business.
Will It Speak to Your Ideal Coaching Clients?
Your dream coaching clients’ opinions matter when it comes to your marketing strategy because they are the people you are targeting. Consider their values, their interests, and desires before you try a new marketing trend.
For example, a lot of businesses will jump on marketing trends or content trends that use pop culture moments or hit Netflix shows to widen their reach. The first question to ask yourself is, “would my ideal coaching client know what I’m talking about?” Is it likely that your ideal coaching client has watched that show or is aware of the pop culture reference? If not, then the marketing or content will fall flat and your time would’ve been better spent elsewhere.
This is thinking about the ROI of how you spend resources in your coaching business. That includes your time which is the most valuable resource in your coaching business. You want to focus your time on activities that will bring in more money. Experimentation is good, but use informed experimentation to try things that have a high likelihood of succeeding.
Does It Fit with Your Current Marketing Strategy
Look at your current marketing and see if the marketing trend fits in with your current branding and marketing. It’s okay to try something a little different – in fact it’s encouraged because that’s the best way to learn and grow your business. But it is important to make sure you are not drastically changing the image of your business (the exception being if you are planning a rebrand).
It is also important to make sure that the marketing trend supports your current sales funnels rather than working against them. Often when coaches jump on marketing trends, they are doing it for 1 of 2 reasons:
- For a short-term boost to their sales
- To trial the marketing trend to see if they should adopt it
This means that the marketing trend needs to work with your current business processes and sales funnels. You don’t want to put a lot of work into adapting your business processes for a month or two only to have to change it back again.
