Copywriting prices can vary significantly between copywriters. If you want a landing page, one copywriter may charge £500 and another copywriter may charge £10,000. You may wonder why the prices vary so much and if there is a difference in quality between the price points. Let’s talk copywriting prices and how to find a cheap copywriter.
Why Do You Want to Find a Cheap Copywriter?
The first thing to determine is what you define as a cheap copywriter. For some coaches, a website copywriter who charges £5,000 – 10,000 is a bargain. Other coaches may be looking for a website copywriter for £1,000 or less. What is your budget range and what would you see as a bargain?
The next thing to think about is WHY you want to find a cheap copywriter and where your priorities lie. There are no wrong answers here because every coaching business is different. Write down all of the reasons why you want to keep copywriting costs as low as possible.
For example, you may be hiring a whole team of experts to work on your landing page (Graphic designer, web developer, marketing expert, etc.) so you can’t blow your entire budget on one person. Alternatively, you may want to keep your copywriting budget low so you can increase your profit margin.
Knowing your priorities will help you to decide what you are happy to allocate more money and what you are willing to sacrifice in order to lower the price.
For instance, a cheap copywriter for coaches will often need to manage a higher volume of work therefore their turnaround times may be longer, their service inclusions may be more streamlined. You also won’t get their undivided attention because they are juggling multiple projects at once. On the other hand, a copywriter with higher prices will include more in their services and will solely focus on one project at a time.
Having a clear list of priorities will help you to compare copywriting packages to find the best copywriter for your needs AND budget.
How Copywriters Set Their Prices
There are a lot of factors that copywriters use to set their prices and each individual copywriter prices their services differently. That is why it is impossible to give you guide prices for what would be considered cheap or expensive. Just like you get to set your prices for your coaching business, copywriters get to set the prices they see fit for their copywriting business.
Here are some factors that influence the prices of a copywriter for coaches.
Results
The biggest factor that will increase the price of copywriting is the results a piece of copy will give. If a copywriter consistently helps coaches achieve certain results and has the data to back that up, then they’re going to charge rates that reflect that.
Let’s say that a landing page copywriter writes coaching program sales pages that consistently convert at 20% (an amazing conversion rate) and their website is full of case studies where clients have made six-figures of revenue from the landing pages. This copywriter will naturally raise their prices to reflect the value they bring to the table. There are coaches who would happily invest £10,000 or £20,000 in a landing page if they knew it would bring in £300,000-£500,000. It is worth it to them because it would take their business to the next level.
Coaches (or other business owners) looking for multiple-six-figure launches wouldn’t trust a cheap copywriter. Think about it, if you saw a copywriter who claimed they could write a landing page that would make you six-figures, but they only charged £500 or £1,000, would you believe them? Would it sound too good to be true? We’re primed to believe that cost represents quality (because to a certain extent it does) and if something is too cheap, we think maybe there’s a hidden catch. Price point is a branding element as much as it is a business strategy.

Experience
The relationship between price and experience is non-linear, but there is a correlation. Copywriters often set low prices when they are starting out because they need to attract clients so they can gain experience. As they gain experience or complete courses and accreditations, they will increase their prices. This is because their clients benefit from the extra knowledge and experience.
A cheap copywriter for coaches may not have as much experience as a mid-range or high-priced copywriter, so spend time looking at the portfolio to see if the quality of their copy is what you are looking for.
Niche
The niche or where the copywriter is advertising can have a large impact on their pricing. Some niches lend themselves to lower pricing (like if a copywriter works predominantly with startups) and others lend themselves to higher pricing.
Similarly, where a copywriter advertises will affect their pricing. Many people starting out or copywriting as a side hustle will advertise on freelancer platforms like Upwork or Fiverr. You are more likely to find cheap copywriters for coaches on these websites because of the high levels of competition. They simply can’t sustain five-figure pricing because people go to those websites looking for cheap copywriters.
Deliverables and Level of Service
The more included in the copywriting service, the higher the price. Copywriters may charge more for:
- Strategy
- Market research
- SEO research
- Implementation
- Aftercare
- Additional resources
- Extra revisions
- Post-implementation tweaks
- Advice or consultation outside of the agreed scope
- Related services
Our lead magnet service is a great example of this. A cheap copywriter for coaches may require you to bring them the idea with a list of topics you want the lead magnet to cover. The deliverables may just be the written lead magnet in a document. Our lead magnet service includes strategy, a 3-email welcome sequence, landing page, and a resource with tips to promote your lead magnet. The extra deliverables mean we’re not the cheapest lead magnet copywriter, but it does mean that you have everything you need to launch your lead magnet.
The more you want included in the copywriting service, the higher the price will be. This is where your priority list will come into play. Is it worth the extra cost to have everything you need or are you willing to do extra work yourself to reduce the cost?
The Value of Working with a Copywriter
Most people have basic writing skills, so copywriting is one of those things that a lot of coaches try to DIY or hire a VA to do. We’re not saying that it is impossible to DIY your copy, we have plenty of blog posts teaching coaches how to DIY their copy and even some copy templates. Using our resources, you may even be able to write copy as well as a cheap copywriter for coaches.
An experienced copywriter brings more than just writing skills to the table. They bring sales and marketing, brand voice, community-building, user experience, and psychology expertise into their copywriting. Those things take years of learning and practice, there is no crash course.
A copywriter for coaches doesn’t just create a piece of writing, they create a sales asset that will convert readers into sales while also nurturing the relationship with your dream coaching clients.
Is There a Downside to Hiring a Cheap Copywriter for Coaches?
Yes, there is. We understand that you have a budget and sometimes you can’t allocate extra money. That is fine, copywriters are never going to be offended if you can’t afford them as long as you are upfront about your budget.
However, you do need to know that by reducing the upfront costs of hiring a copywriter, you leave money on the table. Copywriters who get results charge a rate that matches those results. You may save £2,000 by hiring a cheap copywriter for coaches, but that could mean your landing page doesn’t convert as well, costing you thousands or tens of thousands depending on the price of your coaching course. Just be aware of that before you hire a cheap copywriter.
I Still Want a Cheap Copywriter, Where Can I Find One?
The best place to find cheap copywriters is on freelancer platforms like Fiverr and Upwork. Just search for the type of copywriting or content writing you want and browse the freelancers that fit your budget and needs. You can get in touch with freelancers on these sites to ask them questions about their process and past work just like you would with any other copywriter.
Alternatives to Hiring a Cheap Copywriter
If your budget is tight but you want quality copywriting, there are ways you can bring the cost down. Not every copywriter will offer these options (some don’t need a copywriter) but it is worth asking.
DIY Copy Templates
A lot of copywriters offer DIY copy templates that can guide you through writing a piece of copy. They help you structure the piece of copy, give you formulas to craft strong sales messaging, and tips to make the copy effective.
These are great options if you have a tight budget and like to DIY your copywriting. DIY copy templates turbocharge the results you will get and are more effective than doing it all yourself or hiring a super cheap copywriter (less than £200). Look for the best copywriter you can find (with the results you want and the style you like) when purchasing DIY copy templates.
AI Writing Assistance for Coaches
AI writing tools are not bad, but they are not perfect. What they can do really well is structure a piece of copy or content (because they work really well with formulas) and give editing suggestions. If you are considering using AI writing assistance for your copy or content, we recommend using it as a guide rather than getting it to write a complete piece of copy.
Reducing the Scope
If you really want to work with a copywriter but can’t afford their standard copywriting packages, then perhaps you can reduce the scope of the project. Not all copywriters will agree to this, as removing some of the inclusions may impact the overall results or experience. Basically, if you execute it incorrectly then you may not get the results the copywriter usually achieves or may reduce the overall quality of the piece of copy.
There are two ways you could approach this.
- You could simply say, “I really want to work with you, but currently this package is out of my budget. I respect the value you bring to the table, so wouldn’t dream of haggling, but is there a way we could reduce the scope of work to bring the cost down? My budget is X.” This allows the copywriter to make suggestions on how they can work with your budget or politely tell you it might not work.
- You could ask them how much it would be to just hire them for the piece of copy (or the most streamlined version of their copywriting package they are willing to offer.)
Be aware that if you choose to reduce the scope, it means that you are responsible for a lot more of the work. You may need to do more of the preparation work (provide branding guides and market research), and you may need to do more of the implementation work too. In some cases, reducing the scope may also mean reducing the size of a project. Instead of a full website with SEO pages, you get a Homepage, an About Page, and a service page for your main copywriting course.
Hiring a Copywriter to “Audit” Your Finished Copy
A great way to work with a copywriter without paying for their done-for-you services is to hire them to audit the copy you DIYed. This way, you hire them for a couple of hours to give you suggestions and recommendations on the finished piece of copy to make it stronger. In combination with a DIY copy template, you end up with an effective piece of copy for a fraction of the cost of hiring a copywriter.
It is worth noting that different copywriters offer different levels of assistance during their copy audits. They may give you suggestions for particular lines of copy, but they will not rewrite the entire piece of copy during the call.
For example, we offer Pick Our Brain Calls for £199 per hour. We will suggest alternative options for key parts of the copy, like the above the fold section, the value proposition, or a CTA (call to action). Generally, the call will be looking at the piece of copy as a whole and the flow rather than rewriting an entire piece of copy.
How Much Do Copywriters Charge?
It varies a lot depending on the copywriter. Feel free to look at our copywriting services to see how much we charge. Each of the individual service pages have samples of our work and client testimonials to help you see if we’re a good fit for your coaching business. There will be copywriters who are cheaper than us and there will be copywriters who are more expensive than us. The best way to find the right copywriter for your needs is to look at the whole picture of what a copywriter offers vs. what you need from a copywriter. Price is just one of many factors in your decision.
