Does My Lead Magnet Need a Landing Page?

  • by

If you’re looking to hire a freelancer to create a lead magnet for your coaching business, you may see some packages that include a lead magnet landing page and some that don’t. Landing pages for paid products and coaching programs are common, but does your lead magnet need a landing page? What role does the landing page play for a free product?

What Does a Landing Page Do for a Lead Magnet?

When you’re promoting a product or a coaching program, the landing page is where prospects “land” to make a purchase decision about your product or service. The role of the landing page is to close the sale by giving the prospect all the information they need to make a purchase decision. The higher the price of the product or service, the more the landing page needs to sell to the prospect.

A lead magnet is a free product. The only “cost” involved is the client signing up to your email list. That means that lead magnet landing pages are often a LOT shorter than coaching program landing pages. Lead magnet landing pages will often:

  • Identify the pain point the lead magnet solves.
  • Share how the lead magnet solves that pain point.
  • Tell the prospect what to expect from the lead magnet.
  • Provide a sign-up form to get the lead magnet.

In some cases, lead magnet landing pages don’t even do that. It has become very popular to offer capture widgets that only display a picture of the lead magnet and the lead magnet sign-up form.

A lead magnet landing page will not have SEO as a goal. That is rare, even for landing pages for coaching programs. Usually, the content will be used to drive traffic to the landing pages. Those may focus on SEO or other tactics to increase traffic to the landing page.

What Does a Lead Magnet Landing Page Look Like

The look of a lead magnet landing page can vary significantly depending on the coach’s goals. Some are short and sweet; others are detailed. Let’s take a look at some lead magnet landing page examples.

Lead Magnet Landing Page Example 1: Marketing Examples Newsletter

This is not actually a lead magnet landing page; it is more of a newsletter sign-up page. We have included it here because it is a really good example that matches the brand. Marketing Examples is all about looking for the most succinct and effective way to get your message across. This newsletter sign-up pop-up does exactly that.

Lead Magnet Landing Page Example 2: 60-Day Bookkeeper

This lead magnet landing page is also very succinct. It tells you everything you need to know to decide whether the free training is worth signing up for an email list or not. We love that it clearly states that the training is for “people who want to start or grow a flexible bookkeeping business – no degree necessary.”

The 60-day Bookkeeper also provides the 3 most enticing things the training teaches. These directly address common objections that people might make. (What if I don’t have any experience? What if I can’t find any clients? What if I don’t have the money to invest in a whole bunch of tech?)

Lead Magnet Landing Page Example 3: Summit in a Box

This lead magnet landing page is the typical lead magnet landing page. It is short, to the point, and doesn’t waste time selling to prospects. A coach who has a lead magnet landing page like this will usually do the selling in their content rather than selling on the lead magnet landing page.

The Summit in a Box lead magnet landing page focuses on the wins the lead magnet can bring. (Profitable online summit and $20k summit.) It is also clear that the person who will benefit most from the lead magnet is someone running their first-ever summit.

Alternatives to Lead Magnet Landing Pages

If you don’t want to have a lead magnet landing page, you can always embed a sign-up form into your website and web content. All you would need is a picture and a compelling heading to sell your lead magnet to your ideal coaching clients. The goal is to use content to do the selling and tell prospects what they will learn in the lead magnet.
